Flameproof resistors come down in size
A range of compact flameproof power wirewound resistors respond to growing industry demands for smaller sizes for a given power rating.
A range of compact flameproof power wirewound resistors respond to growing industry demands for smaller sizes for a given power rating.
The WP-S series has been designed to give enhanced pulse handling capability and increased flameproof protection.
The range is available in 1 to 7W (at 25C) power rating, with a wide ohmic range from R01 to 10K and tolerances to 1%.
It has an ambient temperate range of -55 to +155C.
The series is RoHS compliant with Pb-free terminations, and WP-S resistors can also be supplied with radial, goalpost or lancet preformed leads.
The WP2S, WP3S, WP4S and WP5S are also available in an SMD format with Z-formed leads.
John Graham, Welwyn Components Marketing and Sales Director said: "The drive to miniaturise is as widespread within industrial process control and circuit break products as it is in the consumer sector".
"These resistors are ideal for high reliability industrial application as the technology removes the excessive temperature risk associated with conventional wirewound resistors".
Produced on a high purity ceramic substrate, the resistor is assembled with interference-fit end caps to which are welded terminations.
The resistive element is wound on the substrate and welded to the caps.
Flameproof silicone cement coating is applied prior to marking with indelible link.
The components are then leadformed, if required.
The range contains seven sizes of compact flameproof wirewound power resistors with ratings of 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 and 7W.
