Designers of small power supplies and battery chargers for consumer products can benefit from a fusible resistor with superior lightning strike and pulse abilities in a cost effective package.

Designers of small power supplies and battery chargers for consumer products can benefit from a fusible resistor with superior lightning strike and pulse abilities in a cost effective package.

TT Electronics Welwyn Components is offering the EMC series of UL1412 recognised flameproof resistors with a resistance range of 4R7 to 68R at 10% tolerance and a TCR of 100ppm/C.

While providing protection against supply line voltage transients, EMC series devices also restrict the peak inrush current at switch on to suitable levels for the rectifier bridge, consistent with good EMC design.

With failsafe fusing up to 240V they prevent fire by isolating the supply under fault conditions, without the need for a separate fuse.

John Graham, Marketing and Sales Director, Welwyn Components said: "Key design engineers with a need for a robust resistor, will find the EMC series is a multifaceted product, providing wire-wound comparable pulse performance with added thin-film fusing capabilities".

Significant advantages are claimed for manufacturing processes, with several preform and pack options, including radial, goalpost or lancet preformed leads, tape packed with radial preformed leads, and blister taped with Z-formed leads for SMD mounting.

The EMC series is available in a 10 x 4mm body size with a power rating of 2W at 70C ambient, and is suitable for operation from -55 to +155C.
