Avnet's pan-European distribution agreement with Philips is to be expanded to include WBC - The Contributor - as a second Avnet franchise. The new agreement should be complete and effective on 1st October 2004 and will give customers another channel for purchasing Philips products and obtaining design support. WBC will serve as distributor and technical consultant for Philips' wide portfolio of leading semiconductor products, including: microcontrollers; standard and specialty logic devices; discrete semiconductors; and analogue and mixed-signal products.

WBC will put significant emphasis on major growth opportunities in application areas such as industrial web servers, automotive, convergence and connectivity.

Target markets will also be in the area of consumer/multimedia, telemetry, security and identification technologies.

Axel Hartstang, President of Avnet EM EMEA, referred to the expanded relationship: "We have proven with several other semiconductor suppliers that our concept of specialist distributors also allows overlapping franchises to prosper and find complementary success with us".

"WBC has built a very good reputation in the marketplace with a mix of top 10 suppliers and highly recognised specialty lines", said Klaus Mueller, President of WBC.

"Philips combines both - being a world leader in excellent standard products and leading edge design-intensive products at the same time - in one of the industry's most complete portfolios".

Anne Vernay, Director of European distribution at Philips Semiconductors, commented on the appointment: "WBC is one of the fastest growing semiconductor distribution specialists in Europe".

"With its technical strategy and excellent service backbone, we look forward to working with WBC to drive adoption of Philips' breakthrough products across their customer base".
