In response to the increasing use of press fit connectors in automotive applications, Tyco Electronics has introduced a new machine system, designed to deliver increased levels of quality, cost-effectiveness and productivity to the automotive industry. Tyco Electronics' connector seating machines dramatically improve efficiency in the insertion process and centre around the company's established BMEP-3T/5T press - complemented with specific product and application tooling. Two alternative assembly techniques are available: pressing the board onto the connector with the CSM 100 machine or pressing the connector(s) onto the board/panel with the CSM 200.
To press the board onto the connector, the connector is manually loaded into a fixture which aligns the pins and supports their shoulders.
The PCB is placed onto spring loaded PCB supports with the pin tips already positioned in the PCB holes.
The tooling is pushed under the press and the press cycle is initiated.
The pressing is controlled and monitored by the PQM (press quality monitor).
To press a connector onto a board or to press several connectors onto a panel, the PCB is placed onto the tool and the connector(s) are loaded into special fixtures.
The connectors are automatically lifted, turned and placed onto the panel.
The tool slides under the press and the connector is inserted.
Tooling and press ram can be moved into different positions to allow the insertion of more than one connector. Request a free brochure from Tyco Electronics - Global Application Tooling....
