Diodes offer dramatic space savings
The latest ultraminiature surface-mount variable-capacitance diodes from Toshiba are designed to save space in radio and telecommunication equipment and other ultra high frequency designs
Targeted at UHF VCO applications, the JDV2S18S and JDV2S18FS provide reliable operation at frequencies up to 3GHz. The JDV2S18S is supplied in Toshiba's ultra-miniature 2-pin sESC package and has dimensions of 1.4 x 0.6 x 0.55mm. For applications where further space savings are required, the even smaller 2-pin fSC packaging of the JDV2S18FS measures just 1.0 x 0.6 x 0.5mm.

Both the new diodes are rated for a maximum reverse voltage (VR) of 10V.
Typical diode capacitance is 16pF at a VR of 1V, and 7.27pF when VR is 4V.
As a result, typical capacitance ratio is rated at 2.2 (at a frequency of 1GHz).
The new diodes are supplied in tape-and-reel format for use with high-speed, automated assembly lines.
