Integrated inverter delivers 2A
Toshiba has expanded its family of motor drive ICs with a brushless motor driver IC that offers a 2A output current
The TPD4104K incorporates Toshiba's high-voltage pulse width modulation (PWM) control technology and will reduce motor drive development time, save board space, and minimise component count. The new device accepts logic signals from the MPU or motor controller and will drive up to 2A through integrated IGBT outputs.

Low power bus switches shift levels
High-speed CMOS 2bit dual supply bus switches provide an interface between two nodes at differing voltage levels
All necessary three-phase decode logic, high-side and low-side drivers, FRDs (fast recovery diodes), over-current and under-voltage protection, and thermal shutdown circuitry are included in the TPD4104's 23-pin HZIP package.
This package has dimensions of just 31.5 x 16.1 x 5.1mm.
Built-in bootstrap diodes further simplify high-side design by eliminating external power supply hardware.
The TPD4104K is capable of handling voltages of up to 500V as a result of Toshiba's high voltage silicon on insulator (SOI) fabrication technology.
It accepts logic inputs between -0.5 to +7V, and also includes a built-in 7V regulator for the three-phase decode circuitry.
Toshiba's new IC is rated up to 2A for continuous operation, or 3A under pulse load, and is suitable for operation from 240VAC mains and higher voltages.
As a result, the device is ideal for home appliances, industrial control systems, and other motor drive applications where short development time, small size and high reliability are primary design requirements.
