Tilcon Software has been working with with Lectronix to provide a new embedded software framework for automotive and commercial vehicle OEMs and Tier 1 integrators

Current designs require integration of over 20 different technologies - voice, navigation, MP3, satellite radio, Bluetooth, CAN, video, camera and instrument clusters. This represents substantial development costs, estimated by some at 20 man years. The additional development effort (and costs) associated with leveraging this integration (product navigation and its user interface) represents the true value to the OEM and eventual end customer.

The true differentiator and ultimate revenue goal is the ability to deploy various brands and/or trim models in least amount of time and development cost.

In response to the need to focus on high value development and differentiation, Lectronix has introduced AFrame, an application framework and development suite.

AFrame is based on a client server model, where functionality is implemented in middleware services that encapsulate and isolate the integrated technology.

Its modular 'building blocks' allow automotive OEMs and integrators to offer one platform solution that scales from entertainment and multimedia to vehicle information, management and communications.

'AFrame delivers a powerful and reliable embedded automotive applications framework that allows system integrators and automotive OEMs to design next-generation car information systems', says Allan Dale, President and CEO of Lectronix.

'The result is a rich platform for infotainment design that can reduce development costs by eliminating the difficult tasks associated with technology integration while increasing the overall reliability of the end system'.

Tilcon Software was chosen as Lectronix's graphics provider as its unique client server architecture aligns perfectly with AFrame's value proposition.

Being able to quickly and easily produce and modify/rebranded a user interface is an integral part of an automotive OEM's and integrator's high value engineering effort.

Unlike traditional code based GUI solutions, which require engineers to generate and bind project/brand specific code into their core application, Tilcon's real-time embedded graphics server (the Embedded Vector Engine - EVE), and its platform independent, codeless screens are not bound into the core application.

Thus, OEMs and integrators can employ Tilcon's point and click tools to build and re-brand their user interface without affecting application code.

This enables OEMs and integrators to focus on high value user interface engineering, rather than low value code generation, integration and debugging.

'Tilcon's unique architecture allows our customers to easily rebrand the AFrame's graphical user interfaces at a fraction of the time and cost of traditional code based GUI solutions'.

'This is a key business differentiator for Lectronix and our customers', says Frank Pellitta, VP Sales and Marketing of Lectronix.
