Point-of-load modules boast 96% efficiency
The industry's first 50 and 60A POLA-compatible nonisolated plug-in power modules use an innovative multiphase switching topology
Texas Instruments has developed the industry's first 50 and 60A POLA-compatible, nonisolated, plug-in power modules with an innovative multiphase switching topology. Achieving power conversion efficiency up to 96%, the small, ready-to-use modules are capable of powering today's most densely populated power systems found in advanced computing platforms and servers.

The new 50A PTH12040 and 60A PTH04040 plug-in power modules extend TI's widely adopted PTHxx family of nonisolated modules that combine a wide range of input voltages and feature Auto-Track sequencing.
The unique Auto-Track feature allows the outputs of multiple modules to track one another or a common voltage during power-up and power-down transitions.
The PTH12040 operates from input voltages from 8 to 14V, and can supply an output current of up to 50A with output voltages of 0.8 to 5.5V, making it ideal for systems that use a loosely regulated 12V intermediate distribution bus.

The PTH04040 supports input voltages from 2.95 to 5.5V, and can be set to any output voltage in the 0.8 to 3.6V range.
The 60A module efficiently powers advanced computing systems that use either a 3.3 or 5V distribution bus.
In addition to TI's Auto-Track sequencing technology, both modules incorporate several advanced features, including an on/off inhibit and margin up/down controls.
A differential remote output voltage sense ensures tight load regulation, and an output overcurrent and overtemperature shutdown feature protects against most load faults.
In addition, the PTH04040 and PTH12040 include a programmable undervoltage lockout function that allows the turn-on threshold to be customised.
Introduced in 2003, the PTH family of nonisolated plug-in modules is fully POLA-compatible.
Members of the POLA Alliance offer customers advanced, nonisolated modules with the same footprint and form factor.
POLA devices are fully interoperable, providing customers with true second-source availability.
The PTH12040 and PTH04040 modules are available in volume today from TI and the company's authorised distributors.
Available in through-hole and low-profile, double-sided surface-mount packages, suggested pricing for the PTH12040 is $35.00 per 1000 units, and $35.00 for the PTH04040 per 1000 units.
