Interactive TV provider Video Networks has chosen TI's latest DSP-based TMS320DM642 digital media processor and AR7 single-chip DSL router solution for its upcoming HomeChoice IP-set-top box. Video Networks is a leading provider of broadband entertainment through its digital TV, video-on-demand (VOD) and Internet services under the brand name HomeChoice.

Over 1.25 million homes across London now have access to the very best in interactive entertainment.

HomeChoice is unique in offering customers both a super-fast 1Mbit/s Internet product and a multi-channel digital television service through one set top box.

The HomeChoice TV service is one of the best packages on the market, with over 60 of the best broadcast and on-demand entertainment channels including a BAFTA award-winning interactive music service and more than 5000 on-demand movies, music videos and TV programmes.

Video Networks' HomeChoice media gateway currently leverages the processing power and flexibility of TI DSP products to offer state-of-the-art IP-based consumer entertainment services using customers' existing BT phone lines.

The DM642 offers a flexible and cost effective solution for video encoding/decoding, handling a wide range of advanced audio and video coding algorithms.

The data processing capabilities offered by the DM642 allows the HomeChoice set top box to support of a wide range of advanced applications, including high definition TV (720 lines).

HomeChoice benefits from TI's market-proven AR7 single-chip DSL router solution.

The flexible architecture of the AR7 enables a wide range of end-equipment configurations to provide operators with new revenue bearing services such as video.

In addition, the AR7 is also the first DSL consumer premises equipment (CPE) platform to integrate the new, higher performance standards, ADSL2 and ADSL2plus to deliver the higher bandwidths needed for video services.
