Texas Instruments has now shipped more than 50 million voice over IP (VoIP) ports, retaining its leadership in the fast-paced VoIP market

This vast number of ports is a testament to the role that TI's technology has played in the growth of the VoIP market. TI offers over 200 networking equipment manufacturers and designers the broadest range of complete voice over packet solutions based on TI's digital signal processing (DSP) technology and award-winning Telogy Software.

According to a November 2003 In-Stat/MDR report, TI holds roughly 80% of the total VoIP integrated circuit (IC) shipment volume for the IP phone, customer premises equipment (CPE) gateway and infrastructure gateway market segments.

'With unsurpassed shipments and technological advancements in voice solutions, coupled with its comprehensive broadband portfolio, TI is not only leading the market, but also positively shaping its direction', said Sam Lucero, Networking Analyst for In-Stat/MDR.

In today's market, where broadband equipment designers are constantly being pushed to deliver higher quality, lower-cost products using fewer resources and shorter design cycles, TI is helping them accomplish this by delivering superior solutions for VoIP integration in all aspects of voice-enabled technology'.

VoIP has been characterised by many as one of the most significant technology trends for 2004, with enterprise VoIP lines growing at more than 50% in the last year, and residential VoIP growth poised to take off in the next 12 months.

VoIP equipment and VoIP ICs are expected to see particularly strong growth rates over the next five years, with IC revenue rising from $54.9 million in 2002, to $141.1 million in 2007, according to In-Stat/MDR.

In addition to its field-proven voice solutions, TI is using its expertise in broadband technology to deliver voice over WLAN, cable and DSL solutions.

Most recently, TI announced that it shipped 14 million 802.11 ports to customers worldwide in 2003, confirming TI's position as a leading Wi-Fi silicon and software provider to retail, broadband residential gateway (RG), PC and mobile equipment manufacturers around the world.

TI works closely with providers of broadband telephony services to enable VoIP equipment designers to rapidly develop high-quality, feature-rich devices for their customers.

'The key to success in this market is supplying customers with the most innovative, lowest-risk, and highest-performing voice solutions', said Bill Simmelink, General Manager, TI's VoIP business unit.

'We work diligently to exceed our customers' expectations and are pleased to have achieved this incredible milestone.

And this is just the beginning for us - TI is committed to providing the highest quality voice solutions in the market, enabling voice anywhere there is an IP connection'.
