The Sorenson VP-200T is a broadband OEM videophone solution for the mass market, which leverages TI's digital media processor

The Sorenson VP-200 builds on the success of the first generation videophone, the Sorenson VP-100T- the world's first consumer-based broadband videophone appliance. With a broadband Internet connection, television, a remote control and the Sorenson VP-200 videophone device, consumers are able to make and receive video calls.

Videophones based on the Sorenson VP-200 provide much of the same level of quality and features as videophones installed at large corporations at one-tenth their cost.

To help OEM partners reduce their time to market, Sorenson Media provides complete integrated system software, from the operating system to the standards-compliant conferencing stacks, as well as reference designs suitable for development of a variety of end-user product configurations.

Sorenson Media also offers flexible licensing models and a software API that allow customisation of the final product.

In addition, the flexibility of the TI platform enables Sorenson Media to extend additional services to its partners.

'Our next generation videophone solution needed a highly-integrated digital media processor that would give us high performance to meet our market requirements at a low enough cost for the consumer market', said Matt Cupal, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy at Sorenson Media.

'TI's digital media processor offered this unique combination of processing power and cost-effectiveness for today's needs, and offered an impressive roadmap for future development'.

The digital media processor from TI offers the industry's highest performance solution for portable and plug-in multimedia devices, enabling companies such as Sorenson Media to design at a lower overall system cost.

The computational power and programmability provided by the processor enables the highest image quality, maximum functionality, and the flexibility to address evolving multimedia standards.

'Sorenson Media's strength in combining innovative codecs with a full software system and back-end services makes it easy for OEMs to reduce design time and system costs to bring products to market rapidly', said Charlie Gonsalves, Business Development Manager, Streaming Media Group at TI.

'We are pleased to work with Sorenson Media to provide this comprehensive solution for mass-market videoconferencing'.
