The first 16bit ADC to feature six independent ADCs in one package allows high signal throughput and simultaneous sampling in motor control, multi-axis positioning and power monitoring applications

The industry's first 16bit ADC to feature six independent ADCs in one package allows high signal throughput and simultaneous sampling in motor control, multi-axis positioning, power monitoring and optical networking applications. The ADS8364 from Texas Instruments provides 250Ksample/s simultaneous sampling and conversion of all six input channels with low power consumption (69mW/channel) and a 2.7 to 5.5V digital interface voltage - all at a low cost per channel.

The device includes six high-speed sample-and-holds, six high-speed ADCs, a reference and three reference buffers, and with an onboard FIFO, provides a flexible and easy-to-use interface to DSPs and MCUs.

'The ADS8364 surpasses the nearest competition with 50% higher channel count and 4x higher throughput rate.

Alternatively, building a similar system with discrete components would require much larger board space, higher power consumption and a more expensive overall component count', said Miroslav Oljaca, strategic marketing engineer for TI's data acquisition products.

'This is the latest addition to TI's simultaneous sampling converter portfolio that addresses motor control, industrial, power and optical monitoring and control applications'.

The ADS8364 is specified to have 14bit no missing codes with a 5V supply, and also offers +/-3LSB INL, +/-1.5LSB DNL and -92dB distortion at 100kHz.

Inputs to the sample-and-hold amplifiers are fully differential and maintained differential to the input of the ADC.

This provides excellent common-mode rejection of 80dB at 50kHz, which is important in high-noise environments such as motor control and power conversion.

The ADS8364 offers a flexible high-speed parallel interface with a direct address or cycle mode and an onboard FIFO.

The output data for each channel is available as an 8 or 16bit word.

The ADS8364 comes in a TQFP-64 package, and is available now from TI and its authorised distributors.

Suggested resale pricing is $17.21 in 1000 piece quantities.
