Texas Instruments and General Bandwidth are working to enable the next generation of telephony

General Bandwidth has incorporated Texas Instruments voice over packet solutions, based on TI's programmable DSPs and field-hardened Telogy Software products, into its leading multiapplication, central office platform, the G6. 'Service providers require hardened, scalable, and highly reliable platforms for the deployment of toll-quality, packetised voice services', said Sean Parham, vice president of product management for General Bandwidth.

'By combining General Bandwidth's expertise in central office migration with TI's proven silicon and software for voice over packet solutions, we are enabling service providers to immediately reduce the cost to deliver voice services while simultaneously migrating their networks from circuit to packet'.

Powered by the TI solution, the advanced architecture of the G6 is enabling service providers to more cost effectively deliver voice services over the existing copper infrastructure.

Support for advanced voice compression is allowing service providers to take advantage of the highly scalable architecture of the G6, which provides industry leading call density in a minimum footprint, even in worst-case conditions where the highest levels of voice compression and echo cancellation are required.

TI's programmable TMS320C5000 DSPs and Telogy Software products provide futureproof technology allowing General Bandwidth to upgrade its VoDSL solutions for the purpose of adding new features and supporting evolving standards.

Programmable DSPs are required for telecommunications applications where real-time processing is needed to perform high-bandwidth applications such as voice processing.

'General Bandwidth and TI are working together to facilitate the growth of the VoDSL market to deliver packet-based telephony services to consumers', said William Simmelink, general manager of the VoIP Business Unit, Texas Instruments.

'The real-time processing of TI's DSPs and field-proven Telogy Software products together with General Bandwidth's expertise in voice infrastructure equipment are enabling providers to quickly deploy packetised voice services to maximise their revenue streams from existing phone lines'.

In addition to technology collaboration, Texas Instruments is also a strategic investor in General Bandwidth, demonstrating TI's confidence in the company's position and in the future of the VoDSL market.
