Triple-output power modules
shrink ADSL designs
Texas Instruments has unveiled two new triple-output plug-in power solutions for asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) applications
The modules are designed to provide all the required power for 8-, 16-, 24- or 32-channel ADSL infrastructure applications using chipsets, such as TI's AC5 octal solution. Both triple-output modules have a 50% smaller footprint than conventional single-output modules, reducing board space and costs.

In addition to saving board space, the PT4800 and PT4840 ease design and speed time to market with internal sequencing of all outputs.
The sequencing meets the power up and power down sequencing requirements of all the latest ADSL chipsets.
The isolated 25W PT4800 and the 65W PT4840 each operate from a 48V input and provide +15V for line drivers, +3.3V for input/output and ASICs, and +1.5V for core logic.
As part of TI's Excalibur series, the PT4800 and PT4840 are available in surface-mount, vertical through-hole or horizontal through-hole styles and offer industry-standard protection features, including short-circuit (all outputs), current limit, overtemperature and undervoltage lockout.
Samples of the PT4800 and PT4840 are available now with volume production planned for June.
Planned pricing in quantities of 1000 is $50.00 for the PT4800 series and $99.00 for the PT4840 series.
