The new QES211 series extends the frequency range of Temex voltage controlled SAW oscillators (VCSOs) to 2.0GHz, bringing the size and cost advantages of SAW technology to a wider range of telecomms, networking, instrumentation and clock recovery applications. The new devices have been designed by combining Temex' experience as a developer of VCXOs with the SAW expertise of TMX, which was recently formed after Temex acquired Thales Microsonics. The QES211 series VCSOs join the QES66 series, which covers the frequency range 150 to 800MHz.
Temex also plans to introduce a further series to cover the range 2.0 to 2.5GHz, in the near future.
Phase noise for all Temex QES-series devices at 1kHz is -90 dBc/Hz or better, allowing jitter to be reduced to less than 0.2ps RMS.
This extremely low jitter performance makes these new devices ideal for SDH/Sonet transmission applications, wireless "last mile" solutions including broadband fixed wireless and WLL, clock recovery, and a variety of instrumentation applications.
The QES 211 series features sine outputs, displays +/-50ppm absolute pulling range, and operates from -40 to +85C, at 5V supply voltage.
All QES series VCSOs display better than +/- 200ppm frequency stability, including calibration, temperature, load and supply voltage changes, and 10 years ageing.
Both series are packaged in small outline SMD packages, measuring 15.9 x 15.9 x 4.6mm for the QES211.
QES66 devices measure 14.4 x 9.5 x 6.2mm and offer ECL, PECL and LVPECL outputs.
In the QES-series of VCSOs, Temex has combined low jitter and low cost advantages throughout a wide frequency range, without building in additional multiplication circuitry.
The VCSO offers an effective alternative to low cost VCXO technology as well as high performance inverted mesa designs, which also cannot reach the 2.0GHz frequency covered by the Temex QES211 VCSOs.
All devices in the QES ranges also display very good shock sensitivity, at 2ppb/G typical and less than 12ppb/G worst case.
This ensures good immunity to shocks not only experienced by dropping or vibration, but also at other points in the infrastructure such as buried installations where local site work may otherwise disrupt performance.
