Strengthening its position as a leading provider of test and measurement solutions for optical component manufacturers, Tektronix is to acquire Profile Optische Systeme

a technology leader in optical component test and measurement. Profile will be integrated with Tektronix' optical business, expanding the company's portfolio of products focused on physical layer test and providing the technology building blocks for future optical network test solutions. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

"We are investing in optical communications as a key area for growth in the future", said Rick Wills, CEO and Chairman, Tektronix.

"Profile has the optical technology expertise and products that complement Tektronix' current optical test portfolio and will support enabling applications and emerging technologies in the years to come".

"While we have been consistently recognised for our performance-leading products, as an independent organisation we would have had to make significant investments to grow our company to the next level", said Adalbert Bandemer, CEO and President, Profile.

"This acquisition will give Profile the resources to leverage its optical expertise into new applications as well as provide an extended global distribution channel for immediate worldwide distribution".

With the acquisition, Tektronix strengthens its position in key optical product areas including polarisation related measurements and fixed wavelength sources.

The acquired Profile products join a suite of Tektronix optical test products, including the new OTS9600 Series swept wavelength system.

"In the past six months, we have announced several significant optical test products from Tektronix including the OTS9200 Series - the world's first fully digital optical jitter measurement tool, the CSA8000B - a communications signal analyser with added capabilities that address 10 gigabit Ethernet metro networks, and the OTS9600 - a new series of physical layer applications that set new performance benchmarks in accuracy, resolution and throughput for optical component manufacturing", said Rick King, Vice President, Optical Business, Tektronix.

"The addition of Profile's product line enables Tektronix to continue its commitment to providing its customers with best-in-class optical test solutions that improve performance and reliability while reducing costs of high-performance communications systems".
