Remote systems power fibre access
Tyco Electronics Power Systems has two new remote-powered offerings for fibre-to-the-node and fibre-to-the-curb applications.
Tyco Electronics Power Systems has two new remote-powered offerings for fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) and fibre-to-the-curb (FTTC) - CPS2500D (for the downstream or customer end) and CPS3200U (for the upstream end).
These products use existing twisted pairs to provide remote powering for IP-DSLAMs and other equipment.
They deliver power from the upstream site to electronics at the downstream or customer end of a fibre.
When compared with commercial AC powered solutions, remote power requires far fewer battery/generator sites, thus improving availability while lowering the cost of battery maintenance.
It can also speed time to market in two ways: by eliminating the need to run additional AC feeds to each downstream node and by streamlining the right-of-way approval process with municipal governments.
The CPS2500D is located with the video switching equipment at a site not served by batteries.
The equipment is typically placed in a cross-connect cabinet or an optical network unit (ONU).
The CPS2500D accepts up to 20 power circuits and provides up to 1300W.
It is designed to operate best from a CPS3200U source, but works with a variety of other upstream equipment as well.
The CPS3200U provides up to 3200W to feed multiple downstream nodes.
Its convertor and limiter functions are integrated into one unit.
Each module provides two 100VA +/-190V or -190V circuits to exactly match the downstream CPS2500D module.
The CPS3200U has full front access for cabling and a simple craft interface to minimise craft training.
It is also designed to support easy growth through addition of field replaceable units, providing greater scalability in shelf or frame configurations.
Meanwhile, the solution offers small failure groups, with just two feeds per module.
The CPS2500D and CPS3200U solutions deliver remote power using +/-190V or -190V at distances up to 4670m.
As the line power makes better use of existing rights of way and avoids a trip to city hall, these solutions allow for quicker deployment to customers.
"We have been very pleased with early customer acceptance of these products", said Sabi Varma, Vice President of Marketing and Business Operations at Tyco Electronics Power Systems, "and field trials are going well".
In addition, Tyco Electronics Power Systems continues to offer a commercial AC powered solution, CPS6000, to customers who prefer to take utility AC to the node.
