Synopsys has announced the best paper awards for the 15th annual Synopsys Users' Group (SNUG) in Munich, Germany, which took place on 4th and 5th May 2006. SNUG Europe is part of a global programme that last year drew more than 4000 IC and system design engineers to 10 such technical conferences worldwide.
At the Munich event, the first place award for best paper went to Stuart Sutherland of Sutherland, HDL, for 'Modelling with SystemVerilog in a Synopsys Synthesis design flow using Leda, VCS, Design Compiler and Formality'.
Second place went to Dr Peter R Wilson of Integra Design, for 'Automating the process of test bench generation, simulation and documentation generation using AIM, Saber and Latex'.
Third place went to Stephanie D Miller of ARM and Abid M Jindani of Synopsys, for 'Rectilinear supply mesh insertion using JupiterXT virtual flat flow'.
The technical committee award went to Rainer Mann and Karsten Matt of AMD, for 'Multivoltage implementation flow with Synopsys tools'.
The award for best first-time presenter went to Stefan Heinen of Infineon Technologies for 'Virtual prototyping for a 3G baseband chip based on Vast Comet/Synopsys System Studio cosimulation'.

This year's two-day SNUG Europe hosted a record number of delegates and featured a technical programme with 45 user presentations, 17 technical sessions presented by Synopsys experts, and presentations from industry leaders such as AMD, ARM and Nvidia.
A special Saber track targeted Synopsys users in the automotive, aerospace, power and IC industries.
All presentations focused on the challenges that engineers face as they design complex ICs and systems for a wide array of applications.
The event also featured the managers' track, a special programme of business and technology sessions designed for senior engineering and program managers.
'SNUG is a great opportunity to exchange experiences with design engineers from all major semiconductor companies in Europe'.
'It doesn't matter if you do system level, physical, or analogue design, synthesis or verification'.
'Any user of Synopsys tools will benefit from this conference', said Tobias Thiel, SNUG Technical Chairperson and Senior IC Design Methodology Engineer at Freescale Semiconductor.
'With all the great technical content and interest we get, it's gratifying to see the conference grow from year to year'.
Aart de Geus, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Synopsys, addressed more than 360 delegates at the technical conference with his keynote: 'Partnerships for predictable success'.
His talk focused on what it takes not only to succeed, but also to be able to accurately predict when important design goals are met throughout the design cycle.
'SNUG provides designers with a unique forum to share ideas and to give Synopsys executives, product development and support groups honest feedback on what we're doing right and where we can improve', said de Geus.
'By working closely with our users, we can continue to provide solutions that enable them to meet tight deadlines and produce competitive products in the fast-paced electronics market'.
'We congratulate the award winners and thank them for sharing their technical insights with their peers'.
