Sysgo offers OS for Leon processor-based platforms
Sysgo has announced the availability of its flagship product PikeOS, for the Leon processor-based platforms.
RTEMS applications can run concurrently with PikeOS native, ARINC-653 and POSIX applications due to the safe and secure virtualisation technology provided by PikeOS.
The Leon processor is a 32-bit synthesisable processor core based on the SPARC V8 architecture.
The core is highly configurable and particularly suitable for system-on-a-chip (SOC) designs.
Several versions of the Leon processor have been developed.
The Leon3 core is a re-implementation of the SPARC V8 architecture, with a deeper seven-stage pipeline and multi-processor support.
The Leon4 core is an evolution from the Leon3 core with improved performance due to wider internal buses, modified pipeline and support for a Level-2 cache.
RTEMS (Real-Time Executive for Multiprocessor Systems) is a free open-source real-time operating system (RTOS) designed for embedded systems.
RTEMS can be used in many industry sectors and runs on a range of architectures such as ARM, Freescale Coldfire, Texas Instruments C3x/C4x DSPs, x86, MIPS, PowerPC and Renesas SH.
RTEMS is, in particular, used in space applications, since it also supports multiple microprocessors developed for this sector, including SPARC, ERC32 and Leon.
RTEMS is designed to support various open API standards, including POSIX and uITRON.
The PikeOS provides an embedded systems platform where multiple virtual machines can run simultaneously in a secure environment.
The Safe and Secure Virtualisation (SSV) technology allows multiple operating systems APIs to run concurrently on one machine.
PikeOS provides a range of operational 'personalities', including Linux, certified POSIX, uITRON, OSEK, Ada and RT Java.
PikeOS supports many different single- and multi-core processor architectures, such as x86, PowerPC, MIPS, ARM or SH.
RTEMS is a new PikeOS personality available first for the SPARC V8/Leon platform, along with other standard personalities already provided by PikeOS, PikeOS Native, ARINC-653 and POSIX.
PikeOS includes CODEO, an Eclipse-based integrated development environment that provides guided configuration, remote debugging, target monitoring, remote application deployment and timing analyses, in addition to standard application development features such as compilers and assemblers.
The supported personalities for PikeOS 3.1 for SPARC V8/Leon are the PikeOS Native, ARINC-653, POSIX and RTEMS.
