A new distortion free noise cancellation solution for portable devices can eliminate up to -10dB of background noise. The software allows significant suppression of any background noise and provides high quality speech output. Spirit offers both single- and two-microphone NC solutions.
Spirit Single-Mic NC is based on the proprietary speech enhancement technology.
This guarantees speech quality of 0.3-0.4 PESQMOS (according to ITU-T Recommendation P.862) better than that offered by typical currently available NC implementations.
To achieve even better results, the Single-Mic solution can be easily upgraded to Two-Mic NC by adding a second microphone to the system.
In this case one microphone is placed near the speaker and picks up both the desired signal and the background noise.
The other one is located at a distance from the user and picks up the noise only.
By subtracting the signals (using an adaptive filter to achieve the appropriate delay), the noise signal will be cancelled out and the speech signal will be clean.
"It is possible to improve sound quality and eliminate the annoying noise with no damage to the original speech content".
"This is well beyond the abilities of typical single mic NC solutions", comments Andrew Sviridenko, founding CEO of Spirit.
Operating with low SNR (up to -10dB), the software suppresses any external noises, including nonstationary noise, such as music, background speech etc.
Spirit's noise cancellation can be also implemented in other devices used in noisy locations, such as intercoms, set-top boxes, videoconferencing applications, VoIP solutions, voice recognition preprocessors and other voice related applications where it is vital to significantly reduce the background noise level.
