Southampton Photonics has completed an independent conformanceanalysis performed by Telcordia Technologies for its family offibre Bragg gratings (FBGs). Telcordia Technologies, theworld's largest provider of network software, consulting andengineering services to the telecommunications industry, todayconcluded that SPI's FBGs qualify for 25-year service lifeapplications in controlled environments.

SPI's FBGs are usedin WDM systems to allow more wavelengths to be added, dropped, ormultiplexed per fibre and therefore provide more total bandwidthper fibre with improved flexibility and scalability.

The FBGfamily comprises 25, 33, 40, and 50GHz channel spacings for OADMand MUX applications.

They are athermally packaged to provideabsolute wavelength accuracy of +/-0.02nm over the full operatingtemperature range of -5 to +70C.

SPI's business developmentdirector, Stuart Woods, commented, 'We have always beenconfident in the quality of our products and Telcordiaqualification of our products is a further step in SPI'soverall business and manufacturing execution - proving our marketleadership as a volume supplier from grating foundry to completegrating solutions'.

Random samples were measured by SPI atits internal test laboratory and at accredited third-party testlaboratories in the UK and Germany.

The FBG family was tested forlong-term reliability, environmental endurance, operatingtemperatures, flammability and failure rate and passed on allaccounts.

SPI is continuing the Telcordia approval process of allof its products and will commence qualification of modules thisquarter.
