Easy-to-program SMT-compatible radio modules ease design of location-enabled equipment.

The latest comms modules from Round Solutions can be programmed with the Python open-source-licensed programming language.

Devices comprise an industrial-grade GPRS module (which at 30 x 30 x 2mm is reckoned to be the smallest quad-band-compatible GPRS unit in the world) and a combination GPRS/GPS module that also heads its class in terms of miniaturisation.

Both modules can be mounted using SMT (surface mount technology), thereby eliminating the costs of RF plugs and cables as well as time-consuming manual operations.

The combination of our modules with Google Earth and Maps services is especially attractive", explains Harald Naumann, Technical Director at Round Solutions.

Access to geodata enables users to construct positioning equipment quickly and cost-effectively, for example.

Round Solutions has set up an online platform for this purpose from which developers can access Google services free of charge.

"We also provide technical support through a users' forum on GSM; GPRS, UMTS, CDMA and GPS modules", adds Naumann.

Accessible via the Round Solutions homepage the forum now has nearly 4000 registered members.

"We offer premium customers a free design and equipment test", explains Naumann, who also cites the company's free marketing service, through which several thousand potential purchasers of these applications have been contacted.
