A new series of high-efficiency high-output-current DC/DC convertors will reduce the component count of applications ranging from office automation to industrial and audiovisual equipment. Offering power conversion efficiencies of up to 93% and operating without a heatsink, the Rohm BP523xxxA step-down convertors require only an I/O smoothing capacitor for full operation. Based on pulsewidth modulation (PWM) and voltage to frequency modulation (VFM) technology, Rohm's BP523xxxA series comprises four stand-alone DC/DC convertors.

Each converter incorporates all of the necessary control circuits, switching devices and magnetics for step down from a 5V input to either 2.5 or 3.3V.

Output current options are 2, 3 and 4A.

The new DC/DC convertors feature a built-in on/off switch and offer current consumptions as low as 200uA when there is no load.

Typical output voltage ripple for all four devices is 33mV peak-peak.

All the convertors are supplied in SIL packages and dimensions are either 28 x 19.5 x 12.0 or 32.5 x 23.5 x 11.0mm, depending on the device chosen.
