Rohm Electronics has expanded its family of ICs for audio applications with a miniature dual power amplifier that will significantly reduce board space in stereo radio cassette recorder applications. Offering outputs of up to 5W, the new BA5417 dual power amplifier IC is supplied in a miniature HSIP15 package with a PCB footprint of just 30.0 x 3.0mm and a profile of 14.8mm. In addition to the small footprint the IC delivers further space savings as the package style eliminates the need for a heatsink in the majority of applications.
The BA5417 has been designed for high tone quality output and offers a total harmonic distortion (THD) of just 0.1% at a frequency of 1kHz and a power output of 0.5W.
Typical output noise voltage is rated at 0.3mV RMS while the ripple rejection ratio is 55dB.
Designed specifically for cassette player applications, the new IC features built-in protection against ripple current caused by motor start up and offers minimal power-on and power-off 'pop' noise.
An integrated thermal shut down circuit provides protection against over temperature conditions.
The BA5417 will operate across a wide supply voltage of 6.0 to 15.0V and has a standby capability that minimises power consumption when the device is not operational.
Operating temperature range for the IC is rated at -20 to +75C.
