Water cooled resistors are now available from Rhopoint with power ratings of 500 and 1000W.

Water cooled resistors are now available from Rhopoint with power ratings of 500 and 1000W.

They are ideal for use in high density, compact instruments and equipment, and can be used in snubber resistors with GTOs and IGBTs in electric power conversion systems.

The water cooling gives these high power resistors a very low operating temperature in a small physical size as well as a low failure rate.

The resistor has a flat metal film resistive element and hence a very low inductance together with a high surge handling capacity.

For very high power applications, these devices can be stacked.

Resistance range is 10, 20, 40 and 120ohm, and the TCR is 250ppm/C.

The resistors weight 355g.

The dielectric strength to the substrate is from 2 to 5kV and the dielectric strength between terminals and fin is 2kV.

With regard to the water cooling, the standard water temperature is 41C and the volume of water flow is 6 litre/min, with a maximum water pressure of 5.9bar.
