Digital video signal generator offers the widest variety of interfaces and test signals currently available in a single instrument.

Rohde and Schwarz reckons the R and S DVSG digital video signal generator is the ideal instrument for developing and producing the latest-generation TV displays.

It offers the widest variety of interfaces and test signals currently available in a single instrument.

This universal platform generates compressed as well as uncompressed video and audio signals and also features an MPEG-2 transport stream generator and recorder.

The DVSG expands the Rohde and Schwarz portfolio for the development and production of broadcast terminal equipment and makes the company a reliable partner in this field as well.

The R and S DVSG generates standard-compliant audio and video signals on AV interfaces such as HDMI/DVI, RGB/YPbPr, SDI/HD-SDI, S-Video, SCART, D4, CCVS and RCA.

It uses the generated signals to test TV displays (including beamers) in all common SD and HD formats up to 1080p.

A simple import function allows users to work with their own signal templates.

The DVSG also provides signals that occur in the everyday operation of a display by the end user.

For this purpose, the DVSG generates AV signals based on MPEG-2 transport streams.

Furthermore, live signals can easily be recorded and played, making it possible to simulate real-world situations in the lab.

All tests can be performed quickly and conveniently because the AV signals are simultaneously available at different analogue and digital interfaces.

Numerous test signals are available for the transport stream generator and recorder function.

For example, DVB- and ATSC-specific features are supported as well as MPEG 2 and MPEG-4/H.264/AVC coding.

The MPEG-2 transport stream generator and recorder function makes it possible to test multiplexers, decoders and all other components used to process transport streams.

Together with a modulator such as the R and S SFE or SFE100, the DVSG forms a compact and powerful system for testing set-top boxes.

Its compact design and low weight make the R and S DVSG very portable and its integrated display makes it easy to operate.

Signal files can be exchanged via a USB interface or a network connection.

Owing to the instrument's high memory capacity, even very extensive signal libraries are quickly available.

Besides being ideal for developing and producing TV displays, the R and S DVSG is well suited for service applications and for test houses.

Its SDI/HD-SDI output option allows the instrument to be used for professional studio applications.

The R and S DVSG digital video signal generator will be available from Rohde and Schwarz in May 2008.
