New capabilities are particularly attractive for the aerospace and defence sector as well as for manufacturers of microwave modules and components.

New options are available to extend the frequency range of the R and S SMF100A microwave signal generator upward to 43.5GHz and downward from 1GHz to 100kHz.

These new capabilities are particularly attractive for the aerospace and defence sector as well as manufacturers of microwave modules and components that demand a highly precise, flexible signal source covering a wide frequency range.

Power losses due to cable attenuation and transfer impedance are particularly critical to measurements in the microwave range.

To compensate for these losses, the R and S SMF100A microwave signal generator offers an output power of up to +26dBm (at 20GHz).

It is thus an ideal signal source for mixer measurements.

The R and S SMF100A even replaces local oscillators of high-level mixers directly without requiring an additional amplifier, which significantly simplifies the test setup and reduces costs.

The R and S SMF100A's unprecedented SSB value, typically -120dBc (at 10GHz/10kHz offset), and its extremely high harmonics and spurious suppression allow users to control DUTs by means of ultrapure signals.

Users benefit from a flexible signal source that covers a wide frequency range and is capable of handling a variety of measurement requirements.

Another option, the R and S SMF-K4, enables a very fast ramp sweep of up to 1400MHz/ms (between 11 and 21GHz), which is very useful when testing bandpass filters, for example.

Users can now perform real-time comparisons, make direct corrections on the DUT based on measurement results and observe their effect.

The following new options are now available from Rohde and Schwarz for the R and S SMF100A: R and S SMF-B2 (frequency extension 100kHz to 1GHz), R and S SMF-B144 (frequency range 1 to 43.5GHz) and R and S SMF-K4 (ramp sweep).
