Protocol tester addresses interoperability

Interoperability tool suite enables users to establish and simulate a mobile radio network with a mouse click without having to leave the laboratory.

Rohde and Schwarz now offers an interoperability tool suite (ITS) for its R and S CRTU that enables users to establish and simulate a mobile radio network with a mouse click without having to leave the laboratory.

New functions enable network operators and mobile phone manufacturers to perform interoperability and application tests quickly.

Errors that occurred in the field can thus be simulated.

No special programming knowledge is required because of the simple GUI.

The R and S CRTU protocol tester has already been successfully used for conformance tests on mobile user equipment.

With its tree and tabular combined notation (TTCN) test case portfolio, Rohde and Schwarz ranks at the top.

The protocol tester additionally meets R and D requirements with its C++ programming interface (MLAPI).

The new Interoperability tool suite makes the R and S CRTU ideal for network operators, test houses, or mobile phone manufacturers that want to perform simple interoperability tests in the laboratory.

This is also necessary to adapt mobile phone software to different network operators or to analyse errors that occurred during operation in the field.

The ITS currently consists of the Director software.

Users can establish a mobile radio network with the help of the Director software via a GUI, and they can also simulate GSM, (E)GPRS, WCDMA, and HSPA cells in various combinations at the same time.

The UE being tested is connected to the R and S CRTU.

Afterwards, network simulation and UE are interactively controlled.

Moreover, it is possible to load the parameters of existing mobile radio networks into the Director software.

The tests are easy and quick to compile without any programming effort, and - unlike in field trials - they can be reproduced at any time.

The R and S CRTU can be upgraded with a software update providing the new functions.

The Director software (R and S CRTU-WT06) is now available from Rohde and Schwarz.

Additional interoperability tool suite options are already in the pipeline.
