The R and S SMA100A analogue signal generator claims outstanding signal quality and short setting times, making it ideal for universal applications up to 3GHz in labs, production and service.

The R and S SMA100A analogue signal generator from Rohde and Schwarz features outstanding signal quality and short setting times, making it ideal for universal applications up to 3GHz in labs, production and service.

The instrument is equipped with a wear-free electronic attenuator.

A clock synthesiser can be optionally integrated in the signal generator.

Its compact size of only two height units saves space in 19in racks.

A signal source of high spectral purity is necessary for measurement applications such as adjacent channel and phase noise measurements and for use as a local oscillator.

With its frequency range of 9kHz to 3GHz, the R and S SMA100A is the perfect solution for this.

It features as standard typical single sideband (SSB) phase noise of -135dBc (20kHz carrier offset, 1GHz carrier frequency, 1Hz measurement bandwidth) as well as very low wideband noise of typically 157dBc (10MHz-plus carrier offset, 1GHz carrier frequency, 1Hz measurement bandwidth).

An option even improves SSB phase noise to typically -140dBc (1Hz).

Thanks to its innovative synthesis concept, the R and S SMA100A generates a spectrally very pure signal with nonharmonic noise signals typically suppressed by -90dBc, starting at 10kHz offset from the carrier.

As a highly pure clock signal is needed in addition to the RF signal for testing integrated RF circuits, a low-jitter clock synthesiser up to 1.5GHz can be optionally installed in the R and S SMA100A.

Users then have two independent generators in one instrument.

With level and frequency setting times under 3ms, the R and S SMA100A is ideal for production and ATE applications.

Short setting times ensure high throughput and thus reduce costs.

The signal generator features a list mode in which frequency and level changes can be saved in a list, allowing setting times to be reduced to less than 450us.

The output level of the R and S SMA100A ranges from -145 to +25dBm.

The level can be set quickly via the wear-free electronic attenuator.

And, with a compact design of only 2U height, it takes up little space in a 19in rack.

The R and S SMA100A can generate amplitude modulation (AM) and pulse modulation signals as standard.

Frequency and phase modulation are optionally available.

For mil/aero applications, for example, the instrument can be further upgraded with a high-end pulse generator.

The signal generator can be remote-controlled via GPIB, USB and LAN.

Its graphical user interface makes for easy and intuitive settings.

Furthermore, when operated on the IEC/IEEE bus it is compatible with devices from other manufacturers and can enhance or replace them.

The 3GHz model of the R and S SMA100A analogue signal generator is available now from Rohde and Schwarz.
