TV measurement platform adds new functions
Rohde and Schwarz has expanded its successful R and S SFU TV measurement platform with additional functions.
Rohde and Schwarz has expanded its successful R and S SFU TV measurement platform with additional functions.
A new phase noise option allows the R and S SFU to precisely simulate the use of cost-efficient oscillators even at the development stage.
System decisions can now be reached earlier than before.
The new impulsive noise simulation option tests how switching noise affects receiver modules.
In addition, a TS recorder function for recording and replaying data streams is now available.
Rohde and Schwarz is continuously integrating new transmission standards and simulations in the R and S SFU.
The R and S SFU-K41 option retrofits the R and S SFU broadcast test system for simulating oscillator phase noise.
The desired phase noise can be user-edited and stored to a profile within a setting range from -10 to -80dBc/Hz.
The profiles can be loaded as a file from the hard disk or via a USB stick.
The R and S SFU-K42 impulsive noise option permits the pulsed addition of an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) signal to the useful signal with a settable number of pulses.
Plus, the statistical distribution of the pulse intervals can be selected.
The SFU broadcast test system now also features a TS recorder function - option R and S SFU-K21.
Any number of MPEG-2 transport streams with datarates up to 214Mbit/s can be recorded and replayed.
The ARB generator now also allows I/Q waveform files to be replayed for T-DMB - the Korean mobile broadcast standard.
The R and S SFU is a system platform for developing and thoroughly testing new digital transmission methods in TV.
It provides high-precision standard signals, permits signal modifications up to the system limit and can insert defined errors.
Besides DVB-T, the R and S SFU also supports the handheld reception standard DVB-H, the satellite transmission standard DVB-S2 as well as DMB-T (TDS-OFDM), which is planned for China.
The R and S SFU, which is upgradeable for future developments, can replace a system consisting of multiple instruments.
It combines numerous functions in a single platform: a test transmitter, a signal generator/recorder for MPEG-2 streams, a channel simulator with up to 40 paths, a broadband digital AWGN source and an ARB generator (for simulating interference, for example), a BER tester for checking any interference affecting the signal, plus an RF modulator.
The R and S SFU covers virtually all aspects of digital TV: research and development, production, quality assurance, service, propagation and reception tests performed by network operators as well as EMC measurements.
The new R and S SFU-K41, R and S SFU-K42 and R and S SFU-K21 options are now available from Rohde and Schwarz.
Upgrades for future standards are issued periodically.
