Certification system covers both GSM and UMTS

Rohde and Schwarz has expanded its R and S TS8950 RF conformance test system with WCDMA test cases for the FDDV and FDDVI (frequency division duplex) frequency bands.

Rohde and Schwarz has expanded its R and S TS8950 RF conformance test system with WCDMA test cases for the FDDV and FDDVI (frequency division duplex) frequency bands.

This makes the R and S TS8950 the world's first certification system to cover not only four GSM frequency bands but also four frequency bands for UMTS.

Mobile radio manufacturers can use this system to certify their mobile phones for UMTS850 and UMTS800 in accordance with the 3GPP TS 34.121 test specification.

Rohde and Schwarz offers 49 RF test cases in total for the FDDV (UMTS850) and FDDVI (UMTS800) frequency bands.

UMTS850 is used in the USA, and UMTS800 in Japan.

These test cases complement those of the second and third mobile-radio generation, which already run on the R and S TS8950.

They include test cases for four GSM frequency bands as well WCDMA test cases for the FDDI (UMTS2100) and FDDII (UMTS1900) frequency bands, which have been approved in Europe, Asia and the USA.

The expansion now allows manufacturers to certify mobile terminals both for four GSM and for four UMTS frequency bands with the RF conformance test system.

The R and S TS8955 prequalification tester, which has been specially designed for development work, also supports some test cases for these frequency bands.

By performing early automated tests on chipsets and mobile phones, it is possible to optimise their design even during the development phase and thus accelerate their market launch.

Depending on the manufacturer's requirements, the R and S TS8955 can be expanded step by step into a full-fledged R and S TS8950 certification system.

The components are optimally matched as Rohde and Schwarz has developed the software, test cases and individual units themselves.

This is a major advantage for the user, especially in terms of support.

The R and S TS8950 certification system and the R and S TS8955 precompliance test system with the expansion for the FDDV and FDDVI frequency bands are now available from Rohde and Schwarz.
