Remote control transmitters need no licence
RF Solutions has launched a series of rugged, licence-exempt hand-held radio transmitter encoders for remote control applications designed to operate in harsh and outdoor environments
Particularly suited to applications operating in areas of high interference or high levels of radio traffic, the new miniature modules allow designers to quickly and easily implement data links with speeds up to 64kbit/s and operating distances of 200m.
The devices are supplied in shielded SIL packages and operate at the European approved frequency of 868MHz.
Based around a PLL and crystal oscillator, the QFMT6 transmitter provides an accurately controlled RF output in the frequency domain.
This allows narrow filtering at the receiver, significantly increasing the immunity to interference.
An onboard voltage regulator enhances performance from improved supply filtering while ensuring a constant RF output level.
The QFMR6 receiver is based on a single conversion superhet design that uses a crystal-based PLL for accurate generation of the local oscillator.
This allows the use of high-Q bandpass filters, resulting in good adjacent channel selectivity and high interference immunity.
Dynamic range for the receiver is rated at better than 120dB, while analogue and digital outputs simplify integration with external circuitry and microprocessors.
A built-in received signal strength indicator provides a DC output voltage proportional to the RF input signal.
Both the QFMT6 and QFMR6 are fully pin compatible with existing modules, allowing engineers to improve the performance of their applications without modifying the basic design.
Each device can operate from a 5V supply and will work at temperatures of up to +55C as standard.
The QFMR6 is also available in an extended temperature version that is rated for operation between -40 and +80C.
The QFMT6 has dimensions of 31.5 x 10 x 3.4mm, while the QFMR6 measures 49.05 x 17 x 4.5mm.
