Renesas Technology is looking for new members for its SH-Mobile Consortium

The aim of the group will be to provide support for developers of hardware, software and handsets based on the SH-Mobile application processor for 2.5G and 3G mobile phones. The consortium will promote activities to provide users with a wide range of complete solutions in a timely fashion. Members can expect to find expanded business opportunities by working with other companies in the group.

Members are being sought from across the industry to provide endorsement and support for the consortium.

Participation of a wide variety of mobile technology-related companies from around the world is anticipated, including LSI vendors, IP providers, OS providers, software providers, component providers, content providers, and system integrators.

Details of participating organisations, including current strategic partners and the operation of the consortium, will be announced in February 2004 at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France.

Members will have access to restricted information such as the latest SH-Mobile product data and road maps, as well as the SolutionEngine application development board and other development tools and technical support.

They will also be able to make full use of activities such as joint participation in exhibitions, market expansion, and various kinds of information exchange via the Internet.

Such activities will make it possible to reduce the development time and workload involved in SH-Mobile based solutions.

As a result, the consortium will rapidly amass a wide range of solutions.

The SH-Mobile multimedia application processor was specifically developed to meet the demands of next-generation mobile phones.

Currently, 600,000 units are sold per month, with sales predicted to reach 10 million units by the end of the fiscal year (year end March 2004).

The consortium will enable the device to be extended to provide a business platform for various partners and a solution platform for users.

The SH-Mobile Consortium has started the general recruitment of members.

Details are available from the Renesas website.
