Renesas Technology Europe and MPC Data have formed a strategic partnership to offer Linux integration support for the SuperH 32bit microprocessor families

As part of this partnership MPC Data has launched the SH-Linux website, www.shlinux.com, to provide dedicated support for Embedded Linux running on SuperH microprocessors and development boards. This combination offers customers a cost-effective implementation capability for digital home appliances, portable information devices, handheld terminals and office automation appliances.

MPC Data provides an Embedded Linux distribution tailored for Renesas development boards.

This includes prebuilt binaries, documentation and full source code.

Each board support package (BSP) includes a precompiled toolchain, a bootloader, a precompiled kernel and a disk image.

Software integration support is provided either as a free email service or as a paid service for custom software integration development, training and consultancy.

"This partnership highlights Renesas' commitment to provide innovative and value-added system solutions", said Carsten Wild, Product Marketing Engineer, SuperH Systems Group at Renesas.

"We have been working closely together for many years and MPC Data has consistently proven to have comprehensive expertise in combining analysis, design, development and supporting services to our clients for the development of technical solutions based on SuperH microprocessors".

"Up until now, Linux has been held back by a lack of support.

This partnership enables product developers to be confident about bringing a cost-effective product to market with full hardware and software backup", added Phil Buckley, Business Development Director at MPC Data.

"As Linux expands into markets such as telecomms and digital TV there is a growing need to provide the backup offered by commercial OS suppliers.

MPC Data fills that need providing services from requirements capture, through implementation, to rollout and ongoing support".

Support is already available for the EDOSK7705, a low cost development board for the SH7705, and the SystemH SH7751R, a full-featured development board for the SH7751R.
