HD TV goes wireless
High-definition LCD TV featuring wireless HDMI technology, will be on display for the first time at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Tech transfers HD entertainment room to room
Gefen and Pulse-Link will demonstrate the HDMI-Over-Coax technology at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"HDMI is the preferred direct link between HDTVs and digital sources such as Blu-ray and HD DVD players, video game consoles, and set-top boxes used by cable, satellite and IPTV gateways", states John Santhoff, Pulse-Link Founder and CTO.
"Streaming HD content around the home presents the greatest technical challenges for home networking and exposes bandwidth and quality-of-service limitations".
"CWave provides a 'no new wires' solution - extending the reach of HDMI from room-to-room over existing coax cabling and wirelessly connecting devices within each room using the same chip".
HDMI has long been recognised for its high quality transport and content protection mechanisms but is limited to single room fixed point-to-point applications.
Pulse-link's CWave UWB HDMI-over-coax innovation extends this reach over existing coax cabling, including splitters, allowing consumers to access high-bandwidth HD content from entertainment source devices in one room and display it in any other room in the house.
Pulse-LINK's CWave UWB wireless HDMI solution reduces the "rat's nest" of connector wires behind entertainment systems, enabling clean installation of wall-mounted flat-panel displays anywhere in the room.
The HDMI extender enables longer-range, secure wireless connectivity between the HDTV display and multiple entertainment source devices such as video game consoles, DVRs, Blu-ray DVD and HD DVD players.
Pulse-Link is the only semiconductor company to deliver actual production silicon with gigabit-per-second datarates for both wired and wireless HD video distribution.
A long time recognised innovator of UWB technology, Pulse-link invented the use of ultrawideband over coax systems in 2002 and was the first to patent and demonstrate this revolutionising technology for streaming HD content throughout the home.
The use of UWB-over-coax for room-to-room HDMI connectivity is a concept developed by Pulse-Link.
Pulse-Link was also the first company to demonstrate wireless HDMI, back in 2005 with Analog Devices, and continues to set the performance bar for high-datarate wireless connectivity.
Additional CWave whole-home HD networking products include CWave UWB Ethernet-over-coax and CWave UWB 1394-over-coax solutions, offering customers a choice in high-speed HD content distribution.
