Millimetre-wave design to
feature at forum
Liam Devlin, Director of RF integration at electronics design consultancy Plextek, will join speakers from around Europe at the second annual Wireless Broadband Forum next week
The event, organised in collaboration with the Broadband Wireless Association (BWA), combines three conference streams, with a hands-on demonstration area. Devlin will present a paper called "How to design low-cost millimetre-wave equipment" during the Design Forum conference stream on 25th November.

The paper will provide guidelines for the design and implementation of low-cost millimetre-wave equipment.
Techniques suggested will be described, with time allowed to discuss their benefits compared to alternative approaches.
This session is targeted at engineers and design managers actively involved in designing the basic building blocks (components, subsystems and radios) for broadband wireless access, wireless LAN and ultrawideband systems.
Commenting on his upcoming presentation, Devlin said: "The paper gives guidelines that should allow significant cost savings to be made for the production of high-volume millimetre-wave equipment.
All of the techniques and processes required to produce low-cost high-volume millimetre-wave equipment are available today.
The remaining stumbling block is having a product that will be required in sufficiently high volumes to allow the engineering development and volume deployment to go ahead.
Automotive radar is a promising candidate.
But, whatever the application, it is ultimately only a matter of time until low cost millimetre-wave equipment is a commercial reality".
The keynote address at this session will be given by Pertti Jauhiainen of the European Commission, with Helen Duncan, Editor of Microwave Engineering Europe as chair.
The Broadband Wireless Forum will be held at the De Vere University Arms Hotel in Cambridge on 25th-26th November.
