Pirelli Telecom Cables and Systems has appointed Wood Communications as a distributor for the DeskWave range of optical data cables in Ireland

Overseas Market Development Manager at Pirelli UK, Adrian Austin, complemented Pirelli's new partner: "The strategic appointment of Wood Communications is a clear reflection of Pirelli's commitment to fully service and support the needs of the Irish market. The strengths of Wood Communications as a proactive solutions provider, with a strong local presence and an enthusiasm to succeed are well matched to Pirelli's ability to engineer and deliver innovative communication solutions.

We were impressed with the team in Woods, their knowledge of the market and drive to build up the business.

We decided that all of this expertise would serve us well in building up the position we wanted in the Irish market for our optical data cables".

The Pirelli DeskWave products are primarily intended for LANs and other premise applications such as offices, banks, factories, hospitals, university campuses and defence establishments.

Cables are available for use indoors or for external networks or "universal" cables suitable for connections involving indoor and outdoor sections, avoiding splicing at building entry.

The standard ranges go from one to 48 fibres for these environments with a range of alternative fibre types.

Special designs can be supplied to meet higher fibre count applications or composite cables with copper and optical elements or more than one fibre type for future proofing.

"Pirelli have been making cable for over 130-years" explained John Price, Managing Director of Wood Communications based in Dublin.

"They probably offer the widest portfolio of products available from any cable manufacturer in the world, although we will be stocking only a very small range of Pirelli products, the ones that are targeted directly at the data/premise market where our position is strong.

However, its great to know that we have the Pirelli organisation behind us so we can address any potential business that arises".

"We are committed to providing a superior level of products and service to customers.

The new deal with Pirelli confirms this.

Quality is very important in our business and Wood Communications are certified to ISO9002 which enables us to continuously improve service offering and customer satisfaction", confirms John Price.

Adrian Austin summed up; "With our DeskWave range and the complementary portfolio of Sirocco blown fibre products available ex-stock from Wood Communications, Irish customers will be able to get their optical networks in place sooner.

We have supplied optical cables into the Irish market for many years through a number of different channels, much of it direct to operators.

We consider that this agreement with Wood Communications will help us achieve much better penetration of the premise market".
