Salton has teamed up with industry leading flexible display technology company Pelikon to produce the world's first microwave incorporating complex segmented electroluminescent (SEL) display technology as the control interface. Pelikon (based in the UK) leads the world in the development and application of SELs and InterfaceDisplays, has been working with Salton to produce an eye-catching, innovative and easy to use microwave touch screen that features animation and illumination, while navigating the user simply through all the normal cooking and reheating functions.
'Our designers have worked closely with Pelikon to develop this exciting new interface concept, taking our current control panel architecture to the next level', says Charlie Williamson, Salton Product Manager.
'This partnership reinforces our reputation for being the first to identify market potential, develop smart new products that satisfy consumer needs, before launching them through a strong global marketing and distribution network', Williamson concludes.
The revolutionary SEL display at the heart of this exciting new microwave interface is the thinnest self-illuminating display commercially available.

Pelikon's SEL display is printed on a flexible plastic film enabling touch screen functionality with the tactile feel of traditional buttons that users want.
The displays are self coloured with black and chrome finish versions that match the products' colour, providing a sleek new look.
Icons are hidden until needed, considerably simplifying the control panel with the user only being presented with the information they need at any point.
Touch the control panel lightly and the display lights up showing only minimal high level functions like one touch cook, time and start.
From a simple menu the user can reveal more of the interface enabling more specific and complex interaction when needed.
'The Pelikon and Salton design teams share ideas and work very well together', says Chris Barnardo, Pelikon's Creative and New Business Director.
'As a result, Pelikon has been quickly able to realise Salton's design intent, bringing about the rapid development of this new product which is due to be launched to the public at the International Housewares Show 2005'.
'Salton is well known for its ground breaking products and designs, and it is exciting that Pelikon's displays are providing the latest innovation'.
