Diagonal venturi fans provide compact cooling
A new series of fans allows significant advancements in applications where downsizing and increased power densities are a key element of system design.
Providing higher air pressure and higher airflow characteristics within an industry standard footprint, Papst's DV4112 series of fans allow significant advancements in applications where downsizing and increased power densities are a key element of system design.
Papst has achieved this unique combination with the DV4112 by combining the innovative technology of its Variopro platform with the leading-edge mechanical design of the diagonal venturi from the DV range of products.
The venturi of the fan is conical shaped as opposed to cylindrical, with the fan blades following the same profile thus greatly increasing the air pressure characteristics at the exhaust side of the fan.
The DV4112 is suitable for applications where due to compact system architecture and high component density, airflow is often severely restricted for example in Compact PCI applications.
The static pressure in such systems would normally create problems for standard axial fans of this footprint size.
This is not the case with the DV4112 which is able to achieve a maximum flow rate of 275m3/h, approximately twice the performance level attainable from a similarly sized axial fan, and able to operate against static pressures of up to 300Pa.
Built on Papst's VarioPro programmable control platform, the DV4112 can be factory customised to match the exact airflow requirements specified by the customer.
The DV4112 series fans operate from 12V DC and consume 23W of power running at a nominal speed of 6000rev/min.
Papst's legendary, high quality ball bearings are used to provide a service life of 70kh at 40øC.
The fans, which measure a compact 119 x119 x 38mm, will operate over a wide temperature range of -20 to +65øC.
Featuring an electronically commutated external-rotor motor and fully integrated commutation electronics, the fans have electronic protection against reverse polarity, blocking and overloading.
The DV4112 series feature a robust metal fan housing and an impeller of fibreglass reinforced plastic for low mass.
Electrical connection is via four AWG22 leads; two are for supply, one provides a tacho output signal, and another for a speed control input.
Papst's DV4112 series fans meet the demands for increased performance in densely packed electronic equipment, and will find favour with those requiring mission critical deployment such as in server, data storage, telecomms, ISP and power applications.
