Low-cost sensors for all primary colours

Just released from Pacer are the new range of integrated colour sensors from Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions (TAOS).

Just released from Pacer are the new range of integrated colour sensors from Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions (TAOS) Designated the TSLX257 series the new devices consists of three individual optoelectronic sensors that provide onboard conditioning plus colour filters

Each of the three new colour sensors is designed to detect one of three primary colors: red, blue or green.

The TSLR257 detects red light; the TSLB257 blue light and the TSLG257 detects green light.

Historically, most colour sensors have employed discrete colour filters coupled with photodiodes.

These colour sensors have been limited in their application because they are not considered to be cost-effective.

All three TAOS colour sensors are built on the TAOS popular light-to-voltage convertor platform with a deposited colour filter on the detector chip.

This highly integrated approach provides a cost-effective solution to the colour-sensing problem.

Colour sensors have two primary applications: that of determining a specific colour and filtering out light of unwanted wavelength in order to perform a sensing application more efficiently.

Colour identification applications for the three TAOS colour sensors include CRT screens test and setup, colour tone scanning applications on printed materials, paints and cosmetics, process control, medical diagnostics such as body fluid analysis as well as dental, fabric and fashion applications.

Colour filtering applications include fluorescence and mark detection, optical bandpass filters as well as medical diagnostic applications.

In colour measurement applications, designers will use the TSLR257, the TSLB257 and the TSLG257 together to separate the colour into its RGB components.

In colour identification applications, however, designers can use any of the three TAOS colour sensors individually or in combinations.

The data can then be manipulated in a variety of ways to support the designer's colour sensing requirements.

The devices are mounted in low-cost side-looking plastic packages.

Future devices will include linear array colour detectors and single packaged devices with three primary colour detection plus reference photodiode. Request a free brochure from Pacer International ...
