Optical Surfaces is a key component supplier to ScientificSolutions for its award winning NIR high-resolutionliquid-crystal Fabry-Perot etalon (HR-LCFP), a next-generationtunable optical filter optimised for use in the near infra-redband. Using proprietary manufacturing techniques in a thermallystable production environment has enabled Optical Surfaces toroutinely supply batches of fused silica etalon pairs withindustry leading accuracy to Scientific Solutions.

The demandingspecifications required of the etalon pairs, to deliver the highperformance of the HR-LCFP, was better than lambda/200 matchingaccuracy and surface roughness of less than 1nm.

The HR-LCFPprovides a solid-state, tunable interferometer whose plateparallelism is fixed at the time of manufacture, yet maintainstunability over several orders of interference with a narrowbandpass and arbitrary resonant gap size.

The device uses a thinliquid-crystal cell in its resonant cavity formed by the highlypolished etalon substrates.

The refractive index between thesubstrates is altered by varying an electric field across theliquid crystal.

The novel technology incorporated in the HR-LCFPallows rapid, precise and highly stable spectral selection.Because the HR-LCFP is frequency agile, it enables nearlysimultaneous measurement of multiple wavelengths in the NIRregion.

Current applications for the HR-LCFP include lasertuning, lidar and narrowband spectral imaging.

Future use isanticipated in spectroscopic, telecommunications and spacebornesensing applications.

From its ISO9001 approved productionfacility, Optical Surfaces is able to deliver pairs of preciselymatched etalons up to 150mm diameter with matching accuracies tolambda/300 with ring or optically contacted spacers. Request a free brochure from Optical Surfaces....
