High-performance LDOs save cost and space
Linear regulators offer output voltages down to 0.9V and employ a special composite architecture that provides extremely fast dynamic response to changing output loads.
ON Semiconductor has introduced five new high performance bipolar low dropout (LDO) linear regulators.
With output currents ranging from 0.5 to 3.0A and industry-leading low noise performance, the new NCP3335A, NCP5661, NCP565, NCP5662 and NCP5663 are ideal for use in networking, computing, set-top box, gaming and display applications.
These 1 to 3A linear regulators offer output voltages down to 0.9V and employ a special composite architecture that provides extremely fast (less than 1.0us) dynamic (or transient) response to changing output loads.
Delivering industry-leading low noise performance without the need for a bypass noise reduction capacitor, the devices help reduce overall system costs and free up valuable board space.
Providing low ground current independent of output load, these devices reduce power losses.
In particular, the 500mA NCP3335A LDO can sustain inputs voltages up to 16V and employs a special voltage reference and feedback mechanism that offers extremely tight output accuracies over operating conditions of load, line and temperature.
Output accuracies for all the devices are from sub-1% at room temperature and sub-1.5% across the operating range of line, load and temperature conditions.
The NCP3335A is a 500mA LDO with enable.
It is available with 2.5, 2.85, 3.3, 5.0V and adjustable output voltages.
Offered in a Pb-free Micro8 package, it is priced at US $0.34 per unit in 4000-unit quantities.
This device is also offered in a Pb-free 3 x 3mm DFN-10 package priced at $0.36 per unit in 3000-unit quantities.
Additional voltage options in both packages are in development for release in 2007.
The NCP5661 is a 1A linear regulator with enable.
It is available with 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.5, 2.8, 3.0, 3.3V and adjustable output voltages.
Offered in a Pb-free DPAK package, it is priced at $0.35 per unit in 2500-unit quantities.
Also available in a Pb-free 3 x 3mm DFN-6 package, it is priced at $0.53 per unit in 3000-unit quantities.
The NCP565 is a 1.5A linear regulator.
It is available with 1.2, 3.3V and adjustable output voltages.
Offered in a Pb-free D2PAK package, it is priced at $0.48 per unit in 800-unit quantities.
Also offered in a Pb-free 3 x 3mm DFN-6 package, it is priced at $0.53 per unit in 2000-unit quantities.
The NCP5662 is a 2A linear regulator with enable.
It is available with 1.5, 3.3V and adjustable output voltages.
Offered in a Pb-free D2PAK package, it is priced at $0.57 per unit in 800-unit quantities.
This device family will also be available in a 4 x 4mm DFN package later this year.
The NCP5663 is a 3A linear regulator with enable.
It available with 1.5V and adjustable output voltages.
Offered in a Pb-free D2PAK package, it is priced at $0.61 per unit in 800-unit quantities.
