The NCP2809 is a cost-effective stereo audio amplifier that improves sound quality and reduces part count in space-restricted wireless applications such as cellphones and portable music players.

The NCP2809 is a cost-effective stereo audio amplifier that improves sound quality and reduces part count in space-restricted wireless applications such as cellphones and portable music and game players.

Because the NCP2809 delivers 135mW to a 16ohm load from a 2.5 to 5.5V Li-ion battery supply, it is ideal for low power portable audio equipment.

The device's ultralow shutdown current and sleep mode features optimise power consumption for extended battery life.

Excellent power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) and a virtual ground between the stereo speakers eliminate the need for bulky DC-blocking output capacitors.

This simplifies design and reduces system cost.

Outstanding total harmonics distortion plus noise (THD+N) as low as 0.01% provides high-quality audio for wireless headset applications.

The device is offered with either an adjustable or fixed 0dB gain depending on the specific needs of the designer.

"High-quality stereo audio is an important selling feature within the competitive cellphone, portable music and handset game markets", said Andy Khayat, ON Semiconductor Marketing Director for Portable Products.

"Through the integration of key features, the NCP2809 addresses the growing portable industry demand for audio amplification that extends battery life, minimises board space and lowers total circuit cost while still maintaining superior audio performance".

The NCP2809 is offered in a Micro-10 package in two different options (adjustable or fixed 0dB gain) and priced at $0.50 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
