ON Semiconductor has become the first and only chipmaker to receive recognition two consecutive years running from the China Certification Centre for Energy Conservation Products

ON Semiconductor has become the first and only chipmaker to receive recognition two consecutive years running from the China Certification Centre for Energy Conservation Products (CECP), China's highest authority for certifying energy conservation products. CECP presented ON Semiconductor with a Partner of China Certification on Energy Conservation award last week in Beijing to recognise the company's support for China's push for standby power reduction in office automation products including printers and fax machines.

The award comes just 14 months after CECP recognised ON Semiconductor's efforts to reduce "leaky electricity" as a major source of wasted energy from colour-television sets that continue to use power in standby mode.

"The fact that we are recognised for a second year in a row reflects our contributions to optimise standby power performance and energy efficiency in China and worldwide", said Frank Zhang, ON Semiconductor President of China Operations.

ON Semiconductor offers a diverse portfolio of extremely low standby power solutions designed to comply with power consumption specifications including Energy Star, Blue Angel and power factor correction (PFC) requirements such as IEC1000-3-2.

Many of the world's leading office equipment manufacturers including Hewlett Packard, Canon, Lexmark and Epson use ON Semiconductor's power-saving chips to develop technologically innovative, energy-efficient products that help to conserve power.

ON Semiconductor's power-conserving technology goes back to the 1980s, when the company was known as Motorola Semiconductor Components Group and before power consumption was a major issue.

Today, the company's broad range of analogue, logic, discretes and mosfets for offline switched-mode power supplies, as well as PFC applications, help engineers to design a wide variety of energy-efficient products for telecommunications, computing, consumer electronics, industrial applications or power adapters.

ON Semiconductor's NCP120x and NCP101x series of power-management devices provide designers with effective solutions to meet, and many times exceed, international standby power regulations.

Last month, in its bid to continue to respond to the industry need for comprehensive power-management solutions in the smallest space at lowest cost, ON Semiconductor introduced the NCP1651 - an industry's first single-stage PFC controller that facilitates the simplest possible implementation of isolated power converters and reduces both part count and overall design costs for power conversion applications such as battery chargers and distributed power systems up to 200W.

ON Semiconductor is a pioneer technology manufacturer in western China through Leshan-Phoenix Semiconductor Co, its joint venture company that it formed in 1995 in Sichuan province.

ON Semiconductor also has representative offices in Beijing (serving northern China), Shanghai (central and eastern China), Chengdu (western China) and Shenzhen (southern China), as well as design centres in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

To better serve the company's customer requirements to be billed in local currency in China, ON Semiconductor has established a wholly owned trading enterprise in Shanghai.

The company's China headquarters is in Shanghai.
