ON Semiconductor has hired Jim Kearns as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development as part of the company's growing emphasis to deliver application-focused solutions to its customers worldwide.

Kearns has more than 24 years experience leading marketing efforts in highly competitive technology markets ranging from satellite communications to advanced network processors.

Kearns started his career in the electronics industry as a design engineer at Magnavox Corp working on satellite communications gear and then he moved to Hughes Aircraft to work on RF test systems.

Kearns developed much of his marketing expertise while working at Intel Corp, where he spent more than 17 years leading product, marketing and business development teams on a vast array of high-impact hardware and software initiatives that led to new business growth in network processor, server I/O and advanced military applications.

He was a cofounder of Intel's first venture-backed spinout that created the first online development toolsuite for embedded systems, and later founded a software company that created a patent-pending consumer application for pocket PCs.

"Our broad portfolio of products serve as a platform from which we can deploy system-level solutions to our customers", said Bill Bradford, ON Semiconductor Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

"Jim has the background and vision to orchestrate our global marketing effort and drive a competitive advantage in the marketplace".

"As computing and communications products continue to converge, and consumers demand even more mobility, analogue and power management functions become increasingly challenging for system designers", said Kearns.

"ON Semiconductor has a broad technology and customer foundation to create and deliver complete and compelling solutions across an exciting spectrum of current and emerging applications".

Kearns earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and he earned his MBA from the University of Arizona.
