ON Semiconductor has released more than 35 of its small-signal, standard-logic and diode-array devices in miniaturised low-profile leaded SOT553 and SOT563 packages.

ON Semiconductor has released more than 35 of its small-signal, standard-logic and diode-array devices in miniaturised low-profile leaded SOT553 and SOT563 packages.

An additional 15 devices will be available in these packages by the end of the second quarter.

"ON Semiconductor has found that board designers have a growing need for our proven standard and integrated standard components in space-saving packages that can be assembled with the pick-and-place equipment utilised by most of the world's leading board manufacturers and yet be visually inspected - as is still the common, cost-saving industry practice", said Charlotte Diener, ON Semiconductor Vice President and General Manager of Standard Products.

"With more than 35 devices now available in these1.6 x 1.6 x 0.6mm packages, ON Semiconductor now offers the broadest portfolio of such devices in the industry".

Overall, these newly packaged devices reduce board space by up to 70%.

For example, compared with the SOT-23 package the SOT5xx reduces footprint space by two-thirds.

Compared with the SC70 package, it reduces footprint space by one-half.

The SOT5xx lowers board profile by almost 45% compared with an SC70/SC88 package.

Additionally, the lead-free (Pb-free) design of the SOT5xx packages is backward compatible with leaded or unleaded solder processes.

The leaded - rather than leadless - design of the SOT5xx packages is compatible with the prevalent conventional pick-and-place assembly equipment and the industry's strict visual inspection requirements.

ON Semiconductor offers one of the broadest portfolios of SOT5xx devices in the market, including the popular SZ family of logic MiniGates, quad-zener diode protection arrays, small signal bipolar transistors, small signal switching and Schottky diodes and small-signal digital transistors or biased resistor transistors (BRTs).
