TVS devices protect four lines at once
Five new protection devices integrate multiple transient voltage suppression components into a single 1.6 x 1.6 x 0.6mm SOT553 or SOT563 package
Five new protection devices integrate multiple transient voltage suppression (TVS) components into a single 1.6 x 1.6 x 0.6mm SOT553 or SOT563 package. In addition to meeting strict electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection requirements, these SOT5xx-packaged TVS devices reduce board space by 36% and offer a 40% lower profile than conventional SC88 packages.

Main battery switch, wall charging switch and USB charging switch elements are combined into a single component
They are ideal for use in portable applications where board space is at a premium such as cellphones, digital cameras, MP3 players, handheld games and PDAs.
"Because these small integrated devices utilise less board space than discrete TVS solutions, they simplify board layout, reduce the number of components required and ultimately provide a lower bottom-line cost for the overall system", said Ramesh Ramchandani, ON Semiconductor Vice President and General Manager for Integrated Power Products.
"ON Semiconductor's expertise in manufacturing these miniature SOT5xx packages and its advanced integration technologies will enable the company to offer additional, industry-unique, highly-integrated, space-saving solutions".
The five new devices are: the NZQA5V6XV5, a 5.6V unidirectional TVS protection device; the NZQA6V2XV5, a 6.2V unidirectional TVS protection device; the NZQA6V8XV5, a 6.8V unidirectional TVS protection device; the NZQA6V8AXV5, a 6.8V unidirectional low-capacitance TVS protection device; and the NUP4102XV6, a 14V bidirectional low-capacitance TVS protection device.
These new devices protect four separate lines using one small package and are ESD rated to meet IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 requirement.
Some of the devices deliver low capacitance for high- speed data lines.
Others are higher capacitance devices for more general use.
Both unidirectional and bidirectional devices are available.
Additionally, the new SOT5xx packages are manufactured for 260C reflow temperature processes and meet the 100% lead-free requirements.
All five of the new devices are currently in production and priced at $0.10 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
Design samples can be ordered online.
