3D connector models go online
Designers can now download 3D models of Omnetics connectors from the company's website
Miniature high-rel connector manufacturer Omnetics now offers downloadable 3D solid models for its entire range of COTS and standard connector products, including its Bi-lobe (nano miniature), Strip and Circular families. Omnetics 3D models are created as Step files (.stp) made to be imported into a variety of different CAD programs (ProE, Solidworks, Inventor, etc).

Very-low-profile Omnetics connectors suit applications that are very tight on space, and the Nano design allow room for other components
These files are commonly used by engineers and designers to aid them in the design of interconnects within their particular application.
By making models available in the design stage Omnetics is saving engineers a lot of time and effort, as they don't have to create them.
Model availability also decreases 'guessing' errors because the 3D models are created to sise with all available termination options.
Once imported, models can be moved and manipulated within a design.
Positioning can be checked for size constraints, measurements can be taken, and board layouts determined.
STEP files are freely downloadable, therefore designers don't have to wait for samples to see if a particular connector will fit.
