Linear regulator keeps it quiet
A miniature CMOS linear regulator boasts the lowest output noise in the industry and features high power supply ripple rejection, while consuming a mere 25uA of quiescent current.
National Semiconductor has introduced a miniature CMOS linear regulator it reckons conducts the lowest output noise in the industry and features high power supply ripple rejection, while consuming a mere 25uA of quiescent current The LP5900 is a 100mA low-dropout linear regulator optimised for powering analogue and RF signal-path integrated circuits (ICs), including low-noise amplifiers, voltage-controlled oscillators and RF receivers

World's smallest multifunction supervisory ICs
National Semiconductor has announced a family of supervisory ICs with a variety of factory-programmable features that can be configured in hundreds of possible combinations.
Using a patent-pending design, the LP5900 linear regulator emits a low 6.5uV RMS of noise and features a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 75dB without the use of a bypass capacitor.
The LP5900 is available in a tiny, four-bump micro SMD that measures 1.1 x 1.1mm.
Its small form factor, combined with two 0.47uF ceramic chip capacitors, optimises board space and reduces a customer's bill of materials.
Output noise, PSRR and power consumption of the linear regulator are critical parameters to guarantee the integrity of analogue and RF signal paths.
"With the LP5900, National has achieved the industry's lowest noise output without the use of an additional bypass capacitor", said Robert Fischer, Product Marketing Manager Portable Power Systems Europe.
"National is the first analogue company in the industry to offer this combination of high-performance low quiescent current and reduced component count".
The LP5900 is available in multiple output voltages ranging from 1.5 to 3.3V, including 1.5, 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 2.8, 3.0 and 3.3V.
