Phelps has broad international experience.
He joined National Semiconductor in 1987 and moved to Hong Kong as a business centre manager for the company's Asia Pacific region.
During his seven years in Hong Kong he served in several positions, including marketing director and director of sales for Asia Pacific.
In 1996 he was promoted to vice president and managing director of National's Latin America region and moved to Sao Paolo, Brazil.
He returned to the United States in 1999 as vice president of microcontroller products in the Analogue Products Group.
He was promoted to vice president of standard analogue products in 2001.
